The Vintage Bronze Our Lady of Sorrows Medal shows the Sorrowful Mother standing veiled and haloed with her hands folded low, seven swords driven into the flaming heart at her breast, one for each sorrow the old devotion counts, from the prophecy of Simeon to the burial of her Son.
The rim is lettered N.S DE LOS DOLORES, Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, Our Lady of Sorrows. On the reverse a Calvary with a kneeling figure at the foot of the cross is arched over by MURIO POR NOSOTROS, he died for us. The Spanish lettering places the original in the devotional world of Spain and Latin America, where medals of the Dolores were among the most commonly worn of all. The relief is deep and the faces worn soft, exactly as they stand on the antique original.
The Our Lady of Sorrows medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
