The Vintage Bronze Seven Sorrows Medal shows the Virgin veiled and looking upward, her hands clasped at her breast, with a fan of sword blades converging on her heart. The reverse is the Crucifixion, a haloed woman standing at the left, a disciple at the right, and a figure kneeling at the foot of the cross.
The swords come from Simeon, who told her in the temple that a sword would pierce her own soul as well. The devotion built on that word counts seven sorrows across her life, from the prophecy and the flight into Egypt to the meeting on the road to Calvary, the crucifixion and the burial, and the reverse of this medal puts her where the last of them happened. It is a devotion for people carrying something heavy, prayed by those who would rather stand beside her than be told their grief is nothing.
