This rosary center is cast as the figure of the Virgin herself rather than as a framed panel: standing free, her veil falling in long folds, her hands lowered and open at her sides, a halo of small stars arching behind her head. She stands on a shaped base with the date 1830 cast into it.
The pose is Our Lady of Grace as St. Catherine Labouré saw her in the Rue du Bac in Paris in 1830, hands open and rays of light falling from them for the graces, Catherine was told, that people forget to ask for. It is the vision that gave rise to the Miraculous Medal, and the date belongs to the apparition and to the antique original rather than to this casting. Here the whole figure sits at the heart of a rosary.
The rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
