The Vintage Bronze Chalice and Host Eucharistic Medal is a quatrefoil with a beaded rim, given over entirely to the Blessed Sacrament. A chalice stands on a stepped foot at the center, and above the cup the host rises marked with a cross and set in a burst of straight rays that fills the top of the field. Wheat ears rise along one side, and grapes, vine leaves and small blossoms fill the other.
Wheat and vine are the plainest possible statement of what the chalice holds: the bread and the wine that become the Body and the Blood. Medals of this kind were commonly given at a First Communion or at an ordination, when that exchange is the whole of the day, and they remained in use long afterwards as a quiet declaration of belief. Nothing on the piece is lettered, and nothing needs to be, since every element already names the sacrament.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
