An angel sounds a long straight trumpet on this milagro, caught in profile facing left with one knee drawn up as though still in flight. Both hands are raised to the horn, and short lines cast at its bell stand for the sound itself. The wing is feathered in quick strokes and the hair falls in combed waves.
Milagros are the small votive figures left at shrines throughout Mexico and the Spanish colonial world, offered in petition or in thanksgiving for a favor granted. A trumpeting angel is an announcing angel, the herald of news, and the charm is kept by many as a token of good news awaited and good news arrived. A companion milagro faces the opposite direction, and the two answer each other when they are worn together.
