The Old St. Peter medal shows the apostle standing full-length in long robes, haloed, holding a key up in one hand and a book in the other, with SANCTVS PETRVS lettered around the rim in the Latin of the original: Saint Peter. On the reverse a winged figure stands at the left and a smaller figure kneels at the right, with a standing form at the centre in a burst of rays.
The key is the whole of his story in one object. Peter was a fisherman on the Sea of Galilee when Christ called him, the first to say aloud that Jesus was the Son of the living God, and the one told in return that he was the rock on which the Church would be built and that the keys of the kingdom of heaven would be given into his hands. He denied his master three times, was forgiven three times, led the Church, and died in Rome rather than deny him again.
The Old St. Peter medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
