A cross and a medal at once: broad cusped arms, scrolled at every terminal, with the center of each face given to a standing figure. On the front a veiled woman stands with her hands joined at her breast, rays about her head and leafy branches rising on either side — Our Lady in the attitude of prayer in which she is most often shown.
The scapular is the small cloth badge of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, worn over the shoulders as a sign of belonging to her and of trusting her care at the hour of death. For those who work, travel or serve in uniform, a medal has long been permitted in place of the cloth, which is what a piece like this one was made to be. The reverse carries a second haloed figure, long-haired, one hand raised to the breast and drapery falling over the other arm, so both faces are given to intercession.
The two-sided scapular cross medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA in yellow bronze, using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
