On this pierced yellow bronze rosary center St. Cecilia kneels at her organ, veiled and haloed, her hands joined in the middle of her own music. SANCTA runs up one edge of the disc and CECILIA down the other, Latin for Saint Cecilia, framing her like the arch of a niche. The reverse is quieter: a single flowering lily stem across a softly domed field with the numeral 15 cast into the metal.
Cecilia has been honored since the early Roman church as the martyr who, while the instruments played at her wedding, sang in her heart to God alone. Choirs, organists, instrument makers and church musicians of every kind have claimed her ever since, and her feast in late November is still the day choral societies sing. The lily on the reverse is the emblem of the virginity she kept.
The rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
