The Vintage Yellow Bronze St. Agatha Medal is cut as a four-lobed quatrefoil, its petals filled with leafwork and its round centre given to the saint. She stands frontally, crowned and haloed, holding a palm and raised above a stepped and railed platform, in the manner of the shrine statue carried through the streets on her feast.
The reverse is lettered in five clear lines: S. AGATA, VERGINE E MARTIRE, RICORDO, Saint Agatha, Virgin and Martyr, a keepsake. Agatha was martyred at Catania in the third century after refusing a Roman official, and suffered cruelly in the course of it; she is invoked by women facing breast disease, by nurses, and against fire and eruption, her veil carried out against the lava of Etna. The palm in her hand is the martyr's palm.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA in yellow bronze, using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
