The Madonna and Fleur-de-Lis medal has the look of metal worked by hand. Its ground is left rough and hammered, ringed with eight raised bosses, and at the center a veiled Virgin with a broad plain halo holds the haloed Child on her lap, a fleur-de-lis rising beside them.
Mother and Son face outward together, still and direct, in the manner of the old icons where the Virgin is shown as the throne of her Son. The fleur-de-lis at her side is one of Mary's flowers, the lily read in three petals for her purity. On the reverse a cross is incised on a chevron with eight stars scattered around it, a night sky set over the sign of salvation, and the stars answer the eight bosses on the front. There is no lettering anywhere on the piece; it speaks in shapes alone, and the antiqued finish pools in every hammer mark.
The Madonna and Fleur-de-Lis medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA in yellow bronze, using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
