Product Details

On the front of this First Communion medal a veiled young woman lifts her hands above a chalice, and rays break upward from it. The other face is filled by a long-stemmed lily in Art Nouveau relief, the inscription set around it and a name written in cursive along the lower edge.

The French reads SOUVENIR DE PREMIERE COMMUNION, 25 MAI 1902, a souvenir of a First Communion made on 25 May 1902. Medals like this were given to a child on the morning of that day and kept for life, often as the only thing they owned from it. The lily is for the purity the day was understood to ask and to give, and the chalice with its rising rays is the reason for all of it. The name in cursive is the one engraved on the antique original, left in place here as part of the design.

This First Communion medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
