Product Details

The Miraculous Medal in sterling silver, five-eighths of an inch across and cut as an eight-pointed star. The Virgin stands on the globe with her hands lowered and open, rays falling from them across the scalloped field; the reverse carries the letter M surmounted by a cross, with two small hearts beneath.

Mary showed this design to St. Catherine Laboure in the Rue du Bac chapel in Paris in 1830 and asked that a medal be made from it, promising graces to all who wore it. So many followed that within a few years everyone was calling it the miraculous one, and the name stayed. The rays streaming from her hands are those graces; the hearts on the reverse are the Sacred Heart crowned with thorns and the Immaculate Heart pierced by a sword. Sterling suits the star, since silver was the metal of the first of these medals and takes a soft antique tone down in the recesses.

This sterling silver star medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
