The Vintage Bronze Two-Sided Scapular Cross Medal joins a cross and a medal in one piece. On the front, Our Lady stands veiled with her hands joined at her breast, rays gathered about her head and leafy branches rising on either side, the attitude of prayer in which she has been shown for centuries. The reverse gives its center to a second haloed figure, long-haired, one hand raised to the breast and drapery falling across the other arm.
A scapular medal stands in for the cloth scapular itself, worn as a sign of belonging to Our Lady and of the protection she promises those who wear it. Pope Saint Pius X allowed the medal in place of the woven scapular, and pieces like this one carried the devotion through daily life, at work and in the fields, where cloth would not last. Two faces, two figures, one quiet promise kept close.
The scapular cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
