The Vintage Bronze Stella Maris Sailors Medal is cut in the shape of a billowing sail, crossed by the shank of an anchor that runs from top to bottom. The Virgin stands above the waves in a crown of small stars, the sail filling behind her, and the place name Mar del Plata is written in script across the foot.
The reverse carries five lines of flowing script: Stella Maris, Patrona de la Armada Argentina, protege a los marinos, Star of the Sea, patroness of the Argentine Navy, protect the sailors. Mar del Plata is the great Atlantic port and naval city of Argentina, and its Stella Maris sanctuary looks out over the water those prayers were meant to cross. Few medals wear their history so plainly.
The Stella Maris medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
