The Vintage Bronze St. Benedict Sacraments Crucifix carries more on it than most pieces twice its size. The corpus hangs at the crossing, the lettered Benedictine cross fills the disc above the head, and three further scenes are worked into the arms and the foot, one of them an altar standing under a burst of rays.
The reverse is the fuller side. SAINT BENOIT arcs around a standing figure of the saint with crozier and book, and each of the four lobes holds a sacrament in miniature: a baptism at the font, a sickbed with a priest attending, a bishop before kneeling figures, and a congregation gathered at the altar. The abbreviated Latin on the front is the Benedictine prayer against evil, C S P B for the Cross of holy father Benedict, then may the holy Cross be my light, may the dragon never be my guide.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique French original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
