The Vintage Bronze St. Benedict Medal is small and unusually finely cut. The front is a profile bust of the saint in his cowl, the hood falling in heavy folds, ringed by his full Latin title SANCTVS BENEDICTVS MONACHORVM PATRIARCHA, Saint Benedict, patriarch of monks. The reverse carries the Benedictine cross with its familiar cipher of letters, IHS above and FRANCE at the foot, where the original was made.
Those letters are the abbreviated verses of the medal's own prayer against evil. On the arms of the cross stands Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux, Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux, may the holy cross be my light, may the dragon never be my guide, and in the quarters C S P B, the cross of our holy father Benedict. It is the oldest and most trusted medal of protection in the Church, worn, hung above doorways and set into the foundations of houses.
This medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
