The Vintage Bronze St. Benedict Crucifix carries the Benedict medal on both faces, which is what sets it apart. On the front the corpus hangs against a plain shaft beneath an INRI titulus, with the Benedict roundel set into the crossing behind him. Turn it over and the whole cross is finely ribbed, arm to arm and top to bottom, with a second Benedict roundel at its centre showing Benedict standing with a cross in one hand and his rule in the other.
INRI abbreviates the charge Pilate ordered fixed to the cross, Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. The Benedict medal has been worn for centuries as a prayer for protection, a request that the saint stand between the wearer and harm, and setting it into the crucifix itself on both sides gathers the two devotions into one object. At two inches this is a substantial piece with real presence in the hand.
The double-sided St. Benedict crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
