The Vintage Bronze Square-End Crucifix with Rays is firm and architectural. The arms close in square panels, each filled with a heart-shaped leaf and a small fleur, and the corpus hangs against a burst of rays cut into the grained ground. At the foot of the shaft are the skull and crossbones, the old sign of Adam's grave at Golgotha, set beneath the cross as a reminder that the death of Christ undoes the first death.
Above the head is the titulus lettered INRI, for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum — Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews — the words Pilate ordered fixed to the cross and the Church has kept there ever since. Small and shallow as they are, those four letters carry the whole Passion, and they name the crucified man a king.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
