A small round Passion medal with a subject on each face. On one, the Holy Face of Christ is turned three-quarters and bowed under the crown of thorns, the hair falling heavily on either side. On the other, the instruments of the Passion are gathered like a sheaf, the lance, the reed with the sponge, and a scourge, laid across a finely stippled ground.
The two sides together are the whole of the Passion: the face that suffered, and the tools that were used on it. Medals of this kind were made for the Lenten devotions and for the Way of the Cross, where the instruments are counted off one by one, and they were carried by people who wanted those events close at hand rather than recalled once a year. At three quarters of an inch it is a discreet piece with a great deal in it.
The Passion medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
