The Vintage Bronze Our Lady of La Leche Medal carries one of the tenderest of Marian images: Mary seated on clouds with her head inclined, nursing the Child in her lap. Around the rim runs her full Spanish title, NUESTRA SENORA DE LA LECHE Y BUEN PARTO, Our Lady of the Milk and Happy Delivery.
Under that title expectant mothers have brought their prayers to her for four centuries, asking for a safe delivery and a healthy child. The devotion came from Spain to Florida with the first settlers, and its shrine stands at St. Augustine, the oldest place of Marian pilgrimage in the country. The reverse shows an open-air scene, a company gathered before a raised altar beneath trees beside a small shrine building with an arched doorway.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
