The Vintage Bronze Miraculous Medal with Reeds and Flowers gives a familiar image an unexpected setting. The Virgin stands in her burst of rays with her hands lowered and open, set to one side of the oval, while long reed-like leaves and a single blossom sweep across the rest of the field and break past the edge, as though the apparition were glimpsed through the border of a garden.
The reverse carries the M surmounted by a cross. Both faces belong to the Miraculous Medal, given to St. Catherine Labouré in the Rue du Bac in Paris in 1830, when Our Lady stood with rays falling from her open hands and asked that a medal be struck to that pattern. The rays are the graces she said she pours out on all who ask her for them.
The Miraculous Medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
