The Vintage Bronze Miraculous Medal in Openwork has the ground cut clean away on either side of the figure, so that the Blessed Virgin stands framed in open space. She is veiled, her hands opened downward with rays falling from her fingers, on a stepped base finished with fine beading.
That is the attitude she took in the Rue du Bac in Paris in 1830, when she told St. Catherine Laboure that the rays are the graces she pours out on those who ask for them, and that so few think to ask. The medal struck at her request has been worn ever since by more Catholics than any other. Where the usual Miraculous Medal is lettered around its rim with the invocation, this original carries no inscription at all, and the piercing takes the place of the words.
The Miraculous Medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
