The Vintage Bronze Mary Help of Christians Oval Medal shows the Virgin crowned and standing on a rocky ledge, a scepter in her right hand and the Child seated on her left arm, himself crowned and raising his hand in blessing. The relief is deep enough that the figures stand nearly free of the field, which gives the piece real weight and presence for its size.
Around the rim runs the Latin title MARIA AUXILIUM CHRISTIANORUM, Mary, Help of Christians, one of the oldest invocations of the Litany of Loreto, kept as a feast each 24 May and taken up by St. John Bosco as the patronal title of his whole Salesian work. It is a straightforward medal of protection that asks the one thing its words say, and a natural choice for anyone with Salesian ties or the habit of turning to Our Lady when things are hard.
