The Vintage Bronze Madonna and Child Scapular Medal shows the Virgin crowned and veiled with the Christ Child on her arm, he crowned as well and turned toward her. Each of them holds out a small rectangular tablet of the brown scapular, falling across the lower half of the field.
A Virgin and Child holding out the scapular is the traditional image of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, who by Carmelite tradition gave the scapular to St. Simon Stock as a sign of her protection and a promise to those who wear it faithfully. The devotion has been kept for centuries by Carmelites and by families far outside the order, and the deep relief of this casting brings out the crowns, the folds of the mantle and the fine work of the crest above.
