An arched panel edged with a twisted rope line stands at the middle of this rosary center, framed on both sides by leafy branches hung with clustered berries. A small heart sits at the head of the arch and a lily opens below it, so the whole piece reads as a little niche built out of garden ornament.
There is no figure here, and that is a choice with a long history behind it: the flowers do the speaking. The lily is Mary's flower, the sign of her purity that Gabriel carried at the Annunciation, and the heart above it is the heart pierced for her Son. The rosary itself is a garland, the name meaning a crown of roses, so a center worked as a trellis of leaves and berries sits exactly where it belongs. At five-eighths of an inch it keeps a rosary graceful rather than heavy.
The lily and scrollwork rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
