Product Details

A tall, slender crucifix with a great deal of life in its ornament. The arms end in clusters of beads, a scrolled crest rises above the head of Christ, and at the crossing the metal opens into pierced scrollwork that spreads behind the corpus like a wreath. The lower shaft carries beading and a raised vine, narrowing to a small beaded fan at the foot.

The style belongs to the folk silverwork of Latin America, where crosses like this were made in quantity for household altars and for wear, often by the same hands that made a village's everyday jewelry. The vine climbing the shaft is the vine of the gospel, I am the vine, you are the branches, and the wreath of scrollwork behind the corpus turns the cross into something flowering rather than bare. The nineteenth-century original carries light wear on the high points of its ornament, and that wear comes through faithfully in every casting.

The Latin American openwork crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
