The Vintage Bronze Joan of Arc with Crown and Sword shows her in plate armour, bare-headed and haloed, both hands closed on the shaft of a tall standard whose banner sweeps across the field above her. The reverse is heraldic rather than figural: a sword set point-down beneath an open crown, a fleur-de-lis at either side, with lines of Gothic cursive worked around the blade.
The crowned sword recalls the blade St. Joan of Arc asked to have dug up behind the altar at Sainte-Catherine-de-Fierbois, a sword she had never seen and described exactly. The fleurs-de-lis are the arms granted to her family, so the reverse is in effect her coat of arms. The French lettering closes de France, for the Kingdom of France, the cause she rode for at seventeen and died for at nineteen.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique French original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
