This small charm has an unusually strong character. Its whole ground is pitted and pebbled like weathered stone, and laid across it is a plain Latin cross, smooth and slightly off center, catching the light where everything around it stays dark.
The contrast is the point of the piece: a cross set down on rough ground. It is the shape of the thing itself, something clear and finished laid over something broken, and it carries well for anyone who has had to keep going through a hard stretch. Because the surface is so heavily textured, the antiqued finish settles unevenly and every casting comes out with its own map of highlights, bright along the raised cross and dark in the pitting around it.
