The Vintage Bronze Guatemalan Hand Milagro takes the form of an open hand, the fingers spread and slightly curled, the wrist finished with a cuff of small raised beads and a cross raised at the center of the palm. The back of the hand is left smooth and plainly modeled.
Milagros are the small votive offerings pinned to shrine images and to the robes of the saints across Mexico and Central America, each shape naming the thing prayed for or given thanks for. A hand asks for work, for healing, for skill, for the person whose hands do the family's living. The cross set into the palm makes the petition plainer still: the labor of these hands offered up, and the help of God asked for in it. Worn rather than left at a shrine, it keeps that plain request close all day.
The milagro was faithfully reproduced from a Guatemalan antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
