Product Details

The Vintage Bronze Colonial Spanish Child's Cross is slender and quiet. The arms are thin and round in section, ending in small budded knops, and at the crossing sits an eight-pointed rosette, the one flourish on an otherwise plain form. The surface keeps the faint unevenness of the hand-worked original, the marks of something made simply and then worn for a very long time.

Crosses like this were made for children throughout the Spanish colonies, light enough to be worn from an early age and plain enough for a village silversmith to make in quantity. The star at the center does a great deal of work: it catches the light where the arms meet and draws the eye straight to the crossing point, which is the whole subject of the piece. It remains a natural gift for a baptism, a first Communion, or a godchild.

The cross was faithfully reproduced from an eighteenth-century Spanish Colonial original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
