The Vintage Bronze Our Lady of Mount Carmel Medal carries the Sacred Heart of Jesus on one face, half-length in a wide burst of rays with a hand raised and the flaming heart at his breast, and on the other the crowned Virgin with the crowned Christ Child on her arm, both in the long scapular habit of Carmel.
That pairing is the classic scapular medal. Approved for those enrolled in the brown scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, it may be worn in place of the cloth itself, which is why the two images always appear together: the Heart of Christ on one side and his Mother in the Carmelite habit on the other. Around her runs the old Latin plea ORA PRO NOBIS, pray for us, three words that have been the shortest form of Marian prayer for as long as medals have been made.
