Product Details

The Vintage Bronze St. Martin of Tours Medal carries one of the best-loved scenes in Christian art. A haloed soldier reins in his horse and turns in the saddle to cut his cloak in two with his sword, giving half to the naked man walking at his stirrup, with city walls and a spire closing the background and the name S. MARTIN cut into the field beside him.

Martin was a young officer at Amiens when he did it, and that night he saw Christ in a dream wearing the half-cloak he had given away: whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me, made visible in a moment. He left the army, became bishop of Tours, and was among the first saints honored who had not died a martyr. The reverse carries a portrait bust of an elderly clergyman in profile, the memorial for which the original was made.

The St. Martin medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique French original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
