The Vintage Bronze St. John the Baptist Medal shows the young saint against a broad ring halo, a rough skin drawn over one shoulder. He carries a lamb in the crook of his arm and holds a slender reed cross with a banner curling from it, his face turned down toward the lamb. The modeling is graceful and quite shallow, and the reverse is left plain.
Every one of those attributes points away from him. John is the last of the prophets and the cousin who leapt in the womb, the voice in the wilderness who baptized Christ in the Jordan and then said that he himself must decrease. The lamb carried in his arm is the whole of his message: behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
