The Vintage Yellow Bronze Simple Old Coptic Cross carries no ornament at all. Four arms swell smoothly outward and close in three rounded lobes apiece, the upper arm broadened into a shield-like shape, and the domed surface is left entirely bare. The character of the piece is in its silhouette and in the soft, unequal way the metal takes light across it.
Crosses of this trefoil-lobed outline belong to the Coptic and Ethiopian tradition, among the oldest continuous Christian cultures on earth, where a cross is worn plainly and constantly rather than kept back for feast days. The three lobes at each arm end are read as the Trinity, repeated four times toward the four directions. Yellow bronze gives the form a warm golden tone close to the old brasses of that tradition, and hand-finishing keeps the gentle irregularity of the original rather than a machined flatness.
