The Vintage Yellow Bronze Holy Spirit Dove Medal is a small trefoil given entirely to the Third Person of the Trinity. On the front the dove descends with its wings spread the full width of the piece and its head lowered, surrounded by a field of small scattered stars, with a wheel-like rosette at the foot. The reverse carries an unrolled scroll.
The dove is the Spirit's own image in the Gospels, seen coming down upon Christ at his baptism in the Jordan, and Christian art has kept that form ever since for the Spirit whom we ask to renew the face of the earth. The three lobes of the outline echo the Trinity without stating it, which is very much the manner of Italian devotional casting. It is a fitting piece for a confirmation, when the same Spirit is called down by name.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA in yellow bronze, using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
