The Vintage White Bronze Wheat and Grapes Crucifix is worked throughout with the emblems of the Eucharist. A sheaf of wheat rises in the finial above the titulus, a heavy cluster of grapes hangs from a vine below the feet, and small flowers and leaves fill the terminals of the arms. Christ is set against the darkened field of the cross in bright, careful relief, modelled deeply enough to hold shadow at this size.
The scroll above the head reads INRI, for the Latin Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum — Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. Wheat and grapes read together as bread and wine, and setting them on a crucifix ties the death on Calvary to the altar where it is offered again at every Mass. The white bronze gives the piece a cooler, silvery cast that lifts the corpus clear of the ground behind it.
The wheat and grapes crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
