The Vintage Sterling Silver Mary with Flowers Miraculous Medal gives the familiar oval a frame of its own. The Virgin stands at the centre with her arms lowered and open inside a beaded ring, and around it runs a border of scrolls and applied flowers, a full rosette at the lower left with blossoms and leaves round the foot and shoulders, so the oval sits in the middle of a small garden.
The Miraculous Medal follows the pattern Mary showed St. Catherine Laboure in the Rue du Bac in Paris in 1830, standing with rays of grace streaming from her open hands for all who ask for them. The reverse carries the design she asked for: the cross and bar rising above the letter M, ringed by twelve stars for the woman of the Apocalypse crowned with them. Sterling silver suits the piece, keeping the flowers bright against the darker recesses.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA in sterling silver, using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
