Every arm of the Vintage Bronze Trinity-Form Crucifix ends in a trefoil, three lobes joined at a stem, the old shorthand for the Trinity in Christian ornament. Each lobe is rimmed and filled with a fine stippled ground, so that the four ends of the cross catch light differently from the smooth shaft between them, and Christ is modelled in higher relief at the center with his arms outstretched along the crossbar.
Above the head is a small raised tablet lettered INRI, for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.” A hole is pierced through the foot of the cross; on eighteenth-century European crucifixes of this type, owners commonly hung small medals there, adding a favourite saint or a shrine to the piece as the years went on. The antique original is eighteenth-century European work.
The Trinity-form crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
