Each of the four arms of the Vintage Bronze Three-Leaf Italian Crucifix ends in a three-lobed leaf with a small raised rosette at its center, and fine chevron hatching fills the upright and crossbar so the smooth corpus stands clear of it. The figure hangs with knees slightly bent and the head fallen to one side.
Above the head a small titulus is lettered INRI, the Latin Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, the words Pilate ordered fixed to the cross. The three-lobed terminals are a long-standing convention of Italian workshops, read as the Trinity: three lobes on one leaf, three Persons in one God, repeated at every point of the cross so that the form itself preaches the doctrine.
The Italian three-leaf crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.
