Three birds occupy the Vintage Bronze Three Doves Cross. Two stand facing one another across the crossbar with their wings spread wide, and a third descends on the lower shaft, wings open, in the attitude in which the Holy Spirit is nearly always shown. Beaded borders run around every edge, with small fleur-de-lis and scrolls worked into the ends of the arms.
The descending dove is the Spirit at the Jordan, coming down upon Christ at his baptism, and again at Pentecost over the heads of the apostles. The pair above keep watch in the manner of older folk metalwork, where birds flank a sacred center as guardians. Together they make this a fitting cross for a Confirmation, or for anyone who wants the Spirit named plainly in what they carry.
The three doves cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the cross's vintage character.
