The Vintage Bronze Stella Maris Medal carries Mary under the title sailors gave her, Star of the Sea. She stands on a rocky shore with her hands joined and rays spreading behind her, STELLA MARIS arched overhead and ORA PRO NOBIS divided at either side: Star of the Sea, pray for us.
The reverse sets the figure aside for a fouled anchor and a single rayed star, crossed by ribbon scrolls reading RESPICE STELLAM, VOCA MARIAM, look to the star, call upon Mary. The words are St. Bernard's, from his sermon on the Virgin's name, and the sentence that follows them in the original is the reason the medal exists: if the winds of temptation rise, look to the star. It is an old prayer for anyone at sea, and for anyone whose bearings have gone.
The Stella Maris medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
