Each of the four arms of the Vintage Bronze Star-Point Crucifix opens into a four-pointed star, with a smaller star hollowed out at the center of every terminal, so that the cross reads as a constellation with the figure of Christ at its heart. The corpus is cast in soft relief with the head bowed, and a rayed disc spreads behind it at the crossing. Light runs along the raised edge of every point as the piece moves.
A small banner-shaped titulus sits above the head, lettered INRI. The letters abbreviate the Latin Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, the charge Pilate ordered fixed to the cross: “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.” What was written in mockery has been carried on crucifixes ever since as a plain statement of faith, and the stars around it make the same claim in another language.
The star-point crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix’s vintage character.
