The Vintage Bronze St. Dymphna Medal, Pray for Us shows the saint crowned and haloed, standing full length on a low plinth with her hair loose over her shoulders and both hands holding a sword point-down before her. A small crouching figure sits at her feet, a skull rests among flowers at the lower left, and the word ITALY is cast very small at the foot of the field, the mark of the Italian workshop that made the original.
The reverse is lettered in a flowing script: Saint Dymphna, pray for us. Dymphna was an Irish king's daughter killed by her own father, and for centuries she has been invoked by those who suffer from mental and nervous illness and by the people who care for them. The sword is the instrument of her death; the crouching figure at her feet stands for the affliction she is asked to drive off.
The St. Dymphna medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
