The Vintage Bronze St. Benedict Medal with French Legend shows the saint bearded and tonsured in his habit, the poisoned cup with its serpent in one hand and the abbot's crozier in the other, a cross at his breast. Above him the legend reads SAINT BENOIT, his name given in French rather than the usual Latin.
The reverse carries the whole Benedictine formula. The letters C S P B in the quadrants of the cross stand for Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti, the Cross of our holy father Benedict; C S S M L down the shaft and N D S M D across the bar read, may the holy cross be my light, let not the dragon be my guide. Around the rim the abbreviated prayer V R S N S M V, S M Q L I V B says, begone Satan, never tempt me with your vanities; what you offer is evil, drink the poison yourself. At the foot stands PAX, peace, the motto of the order.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
