The Vintage Bronze St. Barbara Medal with Floral Border sets the saint inside a pierced ring of flowers and scrollwork that lets the light through behind her. She stands crowned and haloed in veil and mantle, holding up a chalice surmounted by a Host that throws off rays, her other hand gathered into the folds of her robe. The relief is deep enough that the drapery reads clearly all the way down.
The chalice and the radiant Host belong to St. Barbara, who is invoked for a holy death and for the grace of the last sacraments. Shut in a tower by her father and martyred for her faith, she became patroness of those whose work carries sudden danger, among them miners, gunners, firefighters and everyone who works with powder or flame, and the crown marks her as a martyr of noble birth in the old accounts.
This medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
