The Vintage Bronze St. Anthony of Padua Confraternity Cross is the badge of a society formed under the saint’s patronage. In the roundel at its center St. Anthony stands tonsured and in the Franciscan habit, the Christ Child on one arm and a spray of lilies in the other, the two attributes by which he has always been known. Lilies grow again from each of the four arms, the IHS monogram sits in a sunburst above, and an anchor bearing a cross rests on rock at the foot.
The lettering is unusually full for a cross this size. Around the saint runs S. ANTONI — ORA PRO NOBIS, “Saint Anthony, pray for us.” The reverse gives CONFRAT. S. ANTONII PATAVINI, the Confraternity of Saint Anthony of Padua, together with the date 1725, which belongs to the antique original.
The confraternity cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
