Product Details

The Vintage Bronze Southwest Cross with Heart is long and spare, a single straight bar ending in blunt knobs, two small open rings hung beneath it, and the shaft scored with light incised lines and leaf marks. At the foot, where most crosses simply stop, this one broadens into a wide heart-shaped plate scored with a scrolled line and a cluster of raised dots.

The cross with a heart at its base is one of the distinctive forms of Southwestern silverwork, made in the Rio Grande pueblos and villages and worn as much as an everyday ornament as a devotional object. The heart is the Sacred Heart in its plainest possible statement, set at the foot of the cross where the love and the sacrifice meet. Reproduced from a nineteenth-century original, the piece keeps the hand-cut irregularity of the work it came from: the incising is uneven, the arms are not quite symmetrical, and it is much the better for it.

The Southwest Cross with Heart was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
