Product Details

The Vintage Bronze Small Pierced Cross is made almost entirely of openings. Round piercings are punched in threes at the head and at each arm, a pointed lozenge opens at the crossing, and one more round opening sits in the flared foot, leaving very little solid metal behind. The edges wander a little, as they do on a cross cut by hand.

Crosses of this type came out of the colonial workshops of eighteenth-century Latin America, where they were cut and pierced one at a time rather than struck from dies, and no two were ever quite alike. There is no corpus and no lettering here; the shape alone does the work, as it did for the first Christians who scratched it on walls. At seven eighths of an inch it is a modest everyday cross, small enough for a child and quiet enough to wear under a shirt.

The cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
