The Vintage Bronze Shamrock Crucifix comes out of the older European workshop tradition, where a cross was rarely left plain. Christ is shown with his head inclined, on a shaft covered in fine leaf strokes, and each of the four arms opens into a pierced circle holding a four-lobed clover. The effect is of something grown rather than built, and it rewards being held as much as being seen.
The shamrock has been a figure of the Trinity since Patrick is said to have held one up in Ireland to explain three persons in one God, and setting it at each of the four points of the cross puts that argument everywhere the eye lands. The reverse is worked as carefully as the front, with a leafy rosette at the crossing and the same clover terminals repeated, so the cross reads well from either side and turns easily in the hand during a decade.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
