Product Details

The Vintage Bronze San Isidro Labrador Medal is shaped like a shrine. A standing figure in tunic and cloak fills an arched niche, a rayed nimbus behind his head and a long staff in his right hand, raised on a plain plinth and backed by a fan of finely chiselled rays. Smaller forms crowd the shadows at either side, and the whole piece has the built-up look of a dressed altar image rather than a flat portrait.

San Isidro Labrador was a farm laborer of Madrid whose fields, the story goes, were plowed by angels while he stayed at his prayers — proof that work and prayer were never meant to compete for a man's day. He is the patron of farmers, of laborers and of the land itself, and is deeply loved across Spain and Latin America. The original of this medal was made in the nineteenth century.

The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
